April 10, 2002 - Avnet Asia Programming Center Awarded ISO 9001:2000 Certification

Phoenix, Ariz. -- Avnet Global Services, a specialist services business unit of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announces that its Asian programming center has received ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Avnet opened this programming center in Singapore in January 2001 to provide chip and other component programming services to manufacturers throughout Southeast Asia and greater China. Given the worldwide scope of his team's responsibilities, Rob Hagen of Avnet Global Services sees implications beyond Asia.

"In addition to serving regional needs, the Singapore Programming Center is situated and equipped to serve the needs of our customers' global supply networks." Hagen continued, "This certification was achieved in record time, only 14 months after the center went online. The new standard ISO 9001:2000 certification is based upon eight quality management principles: customer focused organization, leadership, involvement of people, process approach, systems approach to management, continual improvement, factual approach to decision making and mutually beneficial supplier relationships. This system replaced the previous standard ISO 9000:1994 version.

The $2 million Singapore facility is located at Changi South Industrial Estate and has the capacity to program about 300,000 components a month. The Center's services include programming of PAL, GAL, FPGA, MACH Memory, SMT, Flash, Microprocessor and Flash Cards; ability to support all package types from PLCC/DIP to QFP/SOIC/TSOP, including BGA and micro-BGA.

"Through a flexible combination of equipment options, the center is able to service our customers' programmable memory device requirements. Not only can we program the part, we can laser mark, tape-and reel and dry pack it in one integral quality controlled process," he said.
