Eindhoven -- The Audio Visual Division at Avnet Applied Computing Ltd, UK, a sales division of Avnet Technology Solutions, has received The 2003 AV Magazine Industry Website of the Year Award for its AV-Cat solution. The AV-Cat is a 36 page electronic catalogue which can be emailed via a link and downloaded locally, in essence an electronic version of a printed catalogue. It has web site features without the need to be online and one of its biggest attributes is its ability to accept remote pricing updates. The award was presented to David Johnson, Audio Visual Director at Avnet Applied Computing Ltd, at the annual AV Award ceremony in Newport, Cardiff.
The panel of judges agreed that although Avnet's AV Cat is not a Web site, it fell into the category definition of being a ‘Web based project' and attracted the judges' votes for the quality of its design and implementation, as well as the breadth and scope of information presented. It enables ease of distribution, by reaching existing and potential customers quickly and inexpensively via an email and has the ability to be tailored to Avnet Applied Computing Ltd customers -- value-added resellers of computer equipment -- meant that it could fulfil a role as both a trade tool and as an end-user promotional tool.
The Avnet AV Cat is the solution originated by David Johnson. "Overall, we believe this catalogue offers an original, innovative and practical way of generating new business. Whilst not taking the place of traditional Web sites, it does have certain similarities, with added advantages such as offering the proactive push approach of doing business and not relying on business finding you. We are proud to have achieved something original and practical, which we believe will complement web site technology whilst offering a more intuitive feel," explained Johnson.
