Avnet Logistics starts construction of warehouse in Poing, bringing new technology and automation to the market
Poing, Germany -- Avnet Logistics GmbH, a subsidiary of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT) , a global technology distributor, today announced the official ground breaking ceremony for its new warehouse in Poing, Germany. With a total capacity of almost 32,000 sq. meters, the new logistics facility supports Avnet's growth and performance in the region and combines state-of-the art automation with Avnet's expertise in specialized supply chain and logistics services to the global electronics industry. The new facility will be completed in an estimated 18-month period and will be one of the most modern distribution centres in the electronics industry. The new warehouse will replace the existing 25,000m2 centre in Poing and is expected to be fully operational in 2011 to ship products and provide programming services to customers across Europe. The new facility is designed to enhance both efficiency in product delivery and increase customer service levels.
Avnet Logistics provides warehouse, value-added and product modification services to Avnet Electronic Marketing EMEA's sales divisions EBV, Silica, Avnet Abacus, Avnet Memec, Avnet Embedded and Avnet SCS. According to Europartners, a market research firm, Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA is Europe's largest distributor of components. In addition to office space, the new product warehouse covers a total area of more than 25,000m² and will provide over 250,000 pallet and compartment spaces as well as a programming section of more than 2,000 m².

"We decided to build the new centre in Poing principally because of the extensive expertise already available on site, and the proximity to the Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA headquarters was an additional consideration."
