June 2, 2010 - Avnet Selected by CIO Magazine as a CIO 100 Award Honoree

Global Technology Distributor Recognized for Its Innovative Approach to Enterprise Identity and Access Management

PHOENIX -- Global technology distribution, marketing and services company Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) today announced that it has been recognized by IDG's CIO magazine as a recipient of the 2010 CIO 100 award. The 23rd annual award program honors organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT). CIO magazine selected Avnet for this prestigious award based on its innovative approach to enterprise security and the successful deployment of a global enterprise identity and access management system.

"Ensuring the integrity and security of information assets is a must-do priority for any IT team, and enterprise IT security and application access management is a critical element of delivering against that priority," said Steve Phillips, CIO, Avnet, Inc. "However, it often results in dozens of passwords that employees have to remember and manage just to use the applications needed for their jobs. Avnet decided to rethink our approach to global identity and access management to not only strengthen our security practices, but also create a more user-friendly experience for our employees. Our innovative approach improved application security and enables our employees to spend more time on customer-focused activities."

Avnet deployed an enterprise identity and access management system to manage thousands of internal and external user profiles and passwords for core business applications. Avnet employees and contractors now have one user id and password to access Avnet's most frequently used business applications. Additionally, Avnet incorporated single sign-on capabilities that seamlessly share credentials between these business applications, allowing users to use multiple applications without having to enter their login information each time. The system also enables Avnet to ensure that there are consistent security practices in place for user accounts and access to business applications.

"This year's CIO 100 awards draws well-deserved attention to companies that are not only innovating with IT but creating genuine business value as well," said Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO magazine & Events. "These winning companies and their IT organizations are an inspiration to businesses everywhere."

The 2010 CIO 100 awards will be presented at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on August 24th at the conclusion of the twelfth annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony. Complete coverage of the 2010 CIO 100 awards will be online at www.cio.com on June 1, 2010 and in the August 1st issue of CIO magazine.
