Distinct Honor Reflects Avnet's Strong Commitment to Community Service and Charities
Phoenix -- Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading global technology distributor, today announced that it was named Casimiro Foundation's 2011 Socially Responsible Corporation of the Year. Casimiro is a nonprofit organization in Miami, Florida.
A committee of four selected Avnet as this year's winner, citing the close tie between Casimiro's philanthropic initiatives and Avnet's involvement in the community. Casimiro has benefitted from Avnet through sponsorships, grants and other charitable donations, but has also benefited through Avnet's leadership. Angela Cruz, Avnet account development manager and service provider, has served on the Casimiro Advisory Board for three years.
Avnet received the distinct recognition in part because of company programs offered to support employee volunteer efforts. Casimiro noted Avnet's Dollar for Doers Program, a contributions program that donates cash grants to qualified nonprofit organizations based on the level of employee involvement. Also mentioned was Avnet's Matching Grants program, which provides matching funds to charitable organizations that teams of Avnet employees personally support through their branch or business unit.
"Avnet has long since had a history of good corporate citizenship, including an award-winning community relations program focusing on education, children's issues and technology," said Teri Radosevich, vice president of community relations and public affairs. "The recognition that comes from Casimiro is truly an honor, but more importantly, it is a testament to our employees and their personal commitment to giving back."
Casimiro, in partnership with Magic Wand Foundation, is engaged in educational, entrepreneurial and philanthropic activities that impact youth, adults and communities globally. The award was presented during the foundation's 10th anniversary gala dinner in Miami, Florida.
